Authentic Leadership & Communication

Your ability to LISTEN to what others say shows your RESPECT.

Your ability to HEAR what others say shows your INTEREST.

Your ability to appropriately REACT to what others say shows your COMPASSION and EMPATHY (and EQ/PQ).

Some ways we can reflect on our EQ/PQ:

1) Notice how often we interrupt someone while they are speaking

2) Notice where our attention is when others are speaking (are we present?)

3) Notice how often we make gestures or repeat back what the other person has said to let them know they’ve been heard and understood (and accurately)

4) Notice how often we engage the other person in meaningful discussion about what they’ve said (either in the moment or afterwards) and turn any negativity into an opportunity

Authentic leadership is built on a foundation of trust. In order to build trust, you must LISTEN, HEAR, and REACT to others in a way that indicates your desire to build or maintain the relationship.

Authentic leadership requires leaders to have EQ and PQ, even when it is difficult to hear, listen, and appropriately react. 👌
